Family Background

Bunthong is a young boy from Phlong Village, located in Kampong Thom Province, Cambodia. He is currently studying in Grade 4 at a local primary school. Bunthong lives with his parents and is the only child in the family. His parents are migrant laborers who work irregular jobs with unstable and inconsistent income. The family’s financial situation is difficult, and they often struggle to meet their daily needs. Due to this economic hardship, Bunthong’s parents have considered asking him to help with work to contribute to the family’s income. They face the difficult choice between education and survival.

Despite these pressures, Bunthong remains committed to his education. He is determined to continue his studies and is resolved to complete Grade 12. His dream is to become a teacher, inspired by his love for Khmer literature, in which he performs very well at school.
