Family Background

Sreynan is a 13-year-old girl from Traphang Sa Village, Kampong Speu Province, Cambodia. She lives with her parents and three siblings, being the youngest daughter in the family. Currently in Grade 6, she is good at Khmer and Math and dreams of becoming a policewoman in the future. Her parents are subsistence farmers who earn about 35,000 Riel ($7.50) per day, but their income is weighed down by debt and daily expenses. Though they struggle financially, her parents deeply desire to see her continue school and complete her education. Despite these hardships, Sreynan remains determined to finish Grade 12 and pursue higher education to help her family escape poverty. She and her parents are devoted Christians who attend church regularly, and her faith gives her hope and strength to move forward.
